Pacific Crest Trail Map

Mt. Laguna

Hit the trail at 7am and started towards Mt. Laguna. I wasn't sure if that was my target destination for today, since it was 22 miles away. Very breezy and much cooler than yesterday. It was a 3000 ft. gain and a lot of walking. The closer we got the more windy it became. You end up in the clouds, very awesome. Another hiker ( who's name escapes me at the moment, he's british tho and very interesting) and I were close enough that we committed to making the campground less than a mile from town. We started questioning the decision as we continued to gain altitude and having the day catch up to us. The clouds became mist and fog. The wind kicked it up into high gear. With less than an hour of daylight left, our priorities were shelter and food. Setting my tent up and cooking in such windy cold conditions wasn't ideal. When I checked the temp in tent a little later is was 45 degrees. I'm sure it got lower through the night. The icing on the day is that as the mist engulfs us, the trees catch and condense it. That along with the wind, it might as well have been raining. Good thing for a shelter! The plus side to the elevation is that it takes you from chapparal to pine trees and green landscape. Very appreciative, even if the trees rained. The store doesn't open till 9am, so its a slow and lazy morning. It gives me a chance to write this. Let's see what today has in the works.
