We were around the morning fire trying to warm up when Song Bird showed up. It was so great to see her again. She sang her PCT song with a new verse. Soon we were hiking the 8 miles out to Manning Park. After a couple of miles we met my sister, Jeanne. We led the train until we found a note from Root Canal with a treasure map to a 5 pack of beer. Then Song Bird led the charge out to the parking lot where her sister had balloons, champagne and beer for everyone. We sat in the sun reliving the trail. My sister and I went back to the lodge where I washed off the last trail dirt. More hikers finished today including Bonanza Jellybean. Why Wait and I rode in the same car with her to the Mexican border and she camped right next to us way back at the kickoff. I hadn't seen her again until today. She was ahead of me most of the way so I always saw her name in the registers. She said she wondered what had happened to us and what trail names we had. Now she knows.
I phoned my parents but ran out of time on my phone card so I didn't call anyone else. I don't have cell/internet access here at the hotel.
So tomorrow I'll drive back to Seattle with my sister. Nothing has sunk in yet. I'm done. I accomplished what I set out to do. I'm still amazed by all the family, friend and stranger support I have received. I'm proud of myself. I am so happy my feet didn't let me down and were able to carry me the whole way. And I have NO idea what is next!!
THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HELPED ME IN THIS JOURNEY. It really is about the journey and not the destination.
Love,
Why Not
