Nate - Colorado Trail Journal - 2012

Introduction

Up until the past few months I've never given much though to long distance hiking. Sure, I thought it would be fun, but I enjoyed showers too much to really do it. I'm not sure what's happened recently to change my mind, but the more I read about the Colorado Trail, the more I want to get out and do it! The last few summers have been filled with short trips climbing various 14ers throughout Colorado, but this summer, we're going to push ourselves and our limits to cover some serious mileage.

I graduate in just a few short months, but I'm not motivated to immediately seek a job. Honestly, I don't want a job. I want to hike. I figure that this will be my last summer off, and the only time I'll be able to have a 4-6 week vacation, so I had better make this one count! Will I seek a career after the Colorado Trail? Maybe. Will I continue on to tackle greater and longer trails? Maybe. I'll worry about that when this is finished.

I hope to continue to update this journal throughout our planning and training stages, and then perhaps even during our adventure. Stay tuned for more!
