Day By Day Itinerary
Today, I spent the afternoon compiling my Journal Plan for this trip! I started by entering the resupply locations. After that, I added the start and finish locations. Then I was able to look at each week individually. I looked at the number of segments I needed to complete that week, and that gave me a guideline to how I had to divide each week. The first week lined up as almost a day per segment. I discovered that my second week is actually a pretty light week. This resulted in pretty much a mandatory Zero Day. This gives me an opportunity to possibly climb Mount Massive! (The second highest peak in Colorado at 14,421ft.) The third and fourth weeks are longer hiking days; consisting of at least 15 mile days. In the fourth week, the trail comes within two miles of the summit of San Luis Peak (14,014ft). This will most likely be an additional Fourteener that I will be able to bag during this trip! The fifth week is the lightest week of them all, averaging 10.56 miles per day. This will provide a gentile wind-down to the trip! The more I plan, the more excited to get. It is getting to the point where my only prohibition to this trip is my remaining gear I need to purchase. That and scheduling the vacation needed from work.
