Along the CDT last summer

Appalachian Trail Bound

Hi, my name is Mark, but on the trail I go by SlowBro. I'm hoping to hike the AT this year, at least some of it. I will have to do it in sections, due to other commitments, but I really want to finish it in two seasons. I'm what's known as a LASHer (Long A$ $ Section Hiker.)

I have already hiked the Pacific Crest and Continental Divide Trails, so walking the AT would complete the "Triple Crown" of hiking for the U.S.

I am 71, so I probably don't have time to fool around with this enterprise much longer. I finished the CDT last summer and have spent the intervening time thinking long and hard about whether I should set my sites on the AT or not. In the end I figured I had to at least try.

There is an old saying about the Triple Crown trails: You either hike one or all three. No one hikes just two.

So I invite you to follow along as I blog about my preparation for the AT, philosophize about long distance hiking, and eventually chronicle my trip as I hike. I plan to write an entry about every other week until I start my trek, at which time I will post daily.

If you are interested in my other hikes there are links at the bottom of this page to take you to those journals.

Well, that's about it for this first entry. See you in a couple weeks.

Stay safe and Happy Trails
