Just an old guy trying to be a hiker...
Warm up hike ahead.
I am slowly recovering from cancer treatments that have affected me in a number of ways. I am dealing with these side effects with pain medicine as well as other prescription medicine. I am still going to try to hike the trail if not thru-hike (doubtful, but we shal see) I will section hike it. I have been taking walks around my house and will be camping at Torreya State Park (Bristol, FL) with my son-in-law in a few weeks. I will be camping and trying out some of the new gear I have and we will be hiking with only hydration packs on for now through the park. I will be doing this as well as continuing to push myself as much as I can at the house. I'm looking forward to the journey but I am really excited to hike in the woods. I have only done this a few times as a child in the Cub Scouts and a few short hike while camping with my family before the cancer. I really got hooked by reading too many books to count about the Florida Trail and the Appalachian Trail. That's all for now. Until next time.
A New Beginning
The Florida Trail is one of eleven National Scenic Trails in the United States currently running 1,000 miles, with a total of 1,300 miles planned, from Big Cypress National Preserve to Fort Pickens at Gulf Islands National Seashore, Pensacola Beach. Learn more: www.floridatrail.org
