It was warm when I went to sleep last night but, I woke to 33 degrees. I packed up early with the anticipation of a town breakfast. It was about two miles down the trail to the road as I listened to the sound of Mad Creek rushing through the canyon.
At the road I picked up some water from Mad Creek and began the road walk. I was at mile marker 6 when I started but, I didn’t know where the miles started from. I was sure it would be further to the hotel.
The road was very busy and there wasn’t any shoulder for most of the first miles. It was a hectic hike in the early morning traffic flowing constantly into Steamboat. I walked past the airport and then 129 joined 40 and I picked up some sidewalk here and there. When I reached the downtown segment, I stopped at The Shack Cafe for an awesome breakfast!
I continued on and stopped at a bus stop to download the route sheet. As I came out a hiker came in and it was Perrier! This is the third time I’d seen him on this trip. The bus came and interrupted our reunion as I continued to walk to my hotel.
When I arrived there were rooms ready so I was able to get a shower and decompress from the road walk. I spent the rest of the dY resting and eating. I was able to call Sharon and hear her Solheim Cup stories but, mostly it was good to hear her voice.
It was a hike I won’t forget with many challenges and rewards. I hope this adventure may inspire you to have one of your own.
