Preparations

Ok

I've got my start date. June 25. There's a chance of getting in a couple miles the day before, but I'm not banking on it.

I'll be flying back to New Mexico from a wedding in L.A. on the 23rd. Gotta pick up my dog, and pack my gear (if it's not pre-packed!). Then the plan is hopefully drive to Durango, its just 3-4 hrs and leave my truck there so I've got wheels ready at the end of the hike. Hopefully I can find someplace safe to leave it for free. Then somehow get a ride or, more likely, rent a car one-way and drive to Denver. I could meet up with my hiking partner Annie there, as she will fly in.

Or, maybe we'll just meet on the trail. I'm hiking with my lovely 15 month old dog Sammy Davis Jr, Jr. "Sammy" for short, of course. So we have to do the doggie alternate start, sure hope I can get a ride there! There is a campground, which is great, so if I make it there the night of June 24 I'd be psyched. My hiking partner has the option to do the regular Waterton start and we'd meet up on the trail at some point on the 25th, or if she can make her way to the.... Indian Creek I think it's called, the dog-friendly start, well that would be cool too.

We are allowing ourselves until the end of July to do this thru-hike, but it would be good (and we likely will) finish at least a few days early. Whatever.

I thru-hiked the PCT in 2011 so I don't expect any problems, except maybe with the dog- her first long-distance trek. My hiking partner joined me for the first month of the PCT, so we already learned a lot about differences in our hiking styles, and I think we'll communicate and have a super time!
