PCT Prep Trip
The next phase of getting ready for Spring 2015's PCT hike is nearly here. After having to come off the trail in May due to IT band problems, I have been faithfully exercising muscle groups around these areas in anticipation of this next section. I have also added biking into the mix to build up the cardio and endurance. The equipment has been tweaked and food has been dehydrated. So, come Sept. 19, I will be heading to Shenandoah State Park in Virginia, to hike the entire distance (105 miles), from Rockfish Gap to Front Royal.One of the ongoing problems faced when sectioning, is finding a ride to the trailhead from the car. Because of my stinginess, I wasn't excited to be paying so much, and settled on dropping my bike off in Front Royal, driving back to Waynesboro and hike on North. The plan was to bike back to the car using the Scenic Drive. Then, Sharon at Sharon's Hostel in Front Royal came to the rescue, and put the shuttle trip within reach. So, the bike won't be going this time!
The plan is to start from Rockfish Gap on Sept 19, using the shelters as needed, and tenting if needed. Food will be at a minimum, as there are several good eating spots at the park's waysides.
As with all my hikes, this is a chance to be away from non-stop beeper activity at the hospital, but also to try out several new configurations of equipment for the PCT.
