Day 6 - LYV to YV
Last day on the trail...sadness, but what a great experience. Took the JMT to avoid the crowds on the Mist Trail. So many tourists once you get to the bridge at the Vernal Fall overlook. I think some of them think you are crazy for lugging a large backpack so you get some looks. We each bought a new T-shirt since the ones we have are not conducive to the 3 hour YARTS ride back to Mammoth. We got our showers at Curry Village, bought some souvenirs, and caught the 5PM bus. Got back to Mammoth Mountain on time - windy and cold - and got the car. Drove to Burger's Restaurant at the base of the mountain and celebrated. Tomorrow we drive back to Reno and catch our flight back to steamy Northern VA. I hope to be back - the Sierras are the best place to backpack in the US! Usually the weather is great, and the scenery can't be beat.

The John Muir Trail passes through a land of 13,000 and 14,000 foot peaks, of lakes in the thousands, and of canyons and granite cliffs. It's also a land blessed with the mildest, sunniest climate of any major mountain range in the world. The John Muir Trail is 211 miles long and runs (mostly in conjunction with the PCT) from Yosemite Valley to Mt Whitney, in California.
