I liked PA a lot too. The Allegheny NF is 100 miles of well maintained trail. Lots of oil and gas wells though. The random parcels of Game lands throughout the state were surprisingly well maintained too. The Sandy creek and Allegheny river bike trails were nice too. There is pretty minimal road walking until nearing Ohio.
*
M33: After crossing the river on the road (Rt 321) which is the NCT, about a half mile further down the road is Paul's trading post and Bob's Trading Post. Paul's is a tiny shop with very little to buy. Some snacks, some groceries, sodas and a little fridge with a few small subs. A minute further is Bob's which is a restaurant, no groceries and is closed Mon/Tues. You can walk Blisshill road back up to the trail.
*
M49&52: Sheffield. Off trail 5 miles north from 2 different roads. Tops grocery. Did not visit, but a decent option.
*
M81: Cougar Bob’s Kellettville Tavern. About 1/4 mile east of the NCT on Rt 666. Closed Monday, opens 11 am otherwise. Burgers, wings, pizzas.
*
M99: Vowinckel - About a mile west of the trail there is a bar/food with poor google reviews (take Kahle rd instead of highway for a quieter walk). From there turn left down Forest road to Cook Forest Country Inn. Hotel/restaurant that serve big portions and was really good. Closed Wednesdays. You can continue down the road a bit to reconnect with the NCT. Nothing else in area.
*
M109: Cooksburg. About 3/4 mile off trail on Hwy 36. Cafe (11-9), PO. Did not visit.
*
M119: When you hit Miola rd, on the corner is like a mini Chuck E Cheese. Kalyumet Fore Fun. Pizza, ice cream, nachos, etc. Check hours as they are limited and closed several days.
*
M139: Shippemville, mile off trail or walk in/out on your own alternate. Small market that was pretty limited. Could get a few days of food but not ideal. Clarion several miles away has a bigger grocery. You could do a road walk alternate in and out if you wanted.
*
M147: Kossuth. There is a good walk up burger/ice cream place called Snack Shack. Closes a week after Labor Day or so. There is also a meat market, not sure if it also has groceries.
*
M182: Emlenton. IGA, Dollar General. Couple restaurants.
*
M186: Foxburg. Pizza place, fancy Grille type place, fancy hotel, nothing else.
*
M189: Parker. Small market that is stocked pretty good. Deli with sandwiches and daily special. 2 restaurants.
*
M214: West Sunbury. Small market that has pizza and makes sandwiches. The market was OK, could easily get a few days of food but not amazing. Also a pizza place that opens at 3 daily.
*
M235: I79/Hwy 422 - About 10 minutes west is a Pilot gas station with McDonalds, Subway and Cinnabon. Also has showers and laundry. No motel. A bit tricky to get to from trail due to interstate.
*
M249: Highway 65/ Energy. Small convenience store at corner and to the right a minute is a Dollar General.
*
M257: Wampum. Convenience store with decent selection of groceries, large indoor eating area and pizza and other hot foods.
*
M269: Darlington. Small grocery and a convenience store with hot food and pizza.
*
Ohio M30: Libson. Save a Lot grocery. Bunch of restaurants, Subway. 2 cheap motels ($ 45) but about a mile out of main town.
