The wind did pick up overnight but it didn't bother my tent much and
Heather was fine cowboy camping and we both woke dry. We had a final slow
half mile in the narrow creek bed and then climbed up and out to a dirt
road which was fairly hilly as it made its way to Dutchman's Hut. It
drizzled on us a little and the sky was not looking good at all as expected
although I was hoping it might hold off for a few hours for us to make it
to town. We both were still glad we stopped early as there were at least 3
others saying at the hut and it just made for a nicer tiring day yesterday
to not push more.
We grabbed some water from the hut and then continued along a Walker Follow
Fence but smart walker actually follows dirt road just off to the left
instead of very overgrown nothingness next to fence. This took us out to a
paved road for a final 2.5 miles into town. It started to rain in earnest
at the start of the pavement but we did have a bit of a tailwind so with
our rain gear on and umbrella we didn't get very wet by the time we hit
town around 11 am.
We were walking to the IGA grocery and had to pass our hotel/pub. I figured
we looked cold and wet and pathetic enough to warrant a 3 hour early check
in. I tried the pub door handle which was locked and then a minute later it
opened which was awkward for a moment but then resulted in us with our room
at 11 am which was amazing. It's quite common for the old small town pubs
to have old and run down motel rooms as well. I'm pretty wary about staying
in a room above a pub, but luckily this place our room was not above and
instead down a hall which worked out nicely. Not the best hotel, but good
enough. We mostly ate from the grocery store the rest of the day other than
an order of chips I got from the takeaway place that had a pretty limited
and poor menu.
Other than eating we just relaxed on phones and I replaced a slider on one
of my tent vestibule doors that seemed to have just about failed in
consistently zipping closed. We also did a bunch of trip planning for when
we get back to America and then also another weather system is coming in
and we looked at all our options to deal with it the best we can.
