On to Belden, and more Impeccable Timing

The day got off to a great start, and I started right in with a 1400-foot climb to Spanish Peak. Made great time, and enjoyed a lovely walk through the forest. From Spanish Peak looking south I could see Sierra Buttes, and looking north I could just make out Mount Lassen in the haze.
Then back to ridge running. I arrived at Clear Creek, my last creek of this hike. I was surprised at the number of brown trout fingerlings in the creek. First time I've seen fish hanging out in a creek on this trip. Got a liter of water for my Platypus, careful not to scoop up any fish!
After a few more miles, I began the 5-mile, 3000-foot descent to Belden. It was steep, and I was glad I wasn't going uphill on this grade. There must have been a big forest fire on these hills some time ago, as the first half of the descent was only chaparral, no trees. Then a few oak trees, then some conifers and mixed forest. Then the switchbacks began. 34 switchbacks on the steepest part of the descent, and they were not short swifchbacks! Finally reached the bottom and crossed the tracks. No PCT signage, so I just followed a small road into Belden. Quaint town. The section actual ends on the north side of the bridge over the North Fork of the Feather River, so I decided to cross the bridge befor waiting at the Belden Town Resort for my niece Jenny to pick me up. However, just as I was halfway across the bridge, mere feet from completing this section, Jenny turned off Hwy 70 and crossed the bridge! Perfect timing!
So Jenny parked, I finished the section, and I bought an ice cream and beer to celebrate the completion of another section. I've now hiked over 75% of the PCT!
