Hanging out at the Dinsmores
So I'm sitting in the Dinsmore's hiker dorm watching old episodes of mash on VHS, having spent most of the day hanging out with the fantastic people at the Baring store, being undercharged on half the food I ate, and given the rest for free. Excellent town stop.
Umm... let's see, I did some hiking today too, I guess. Easy miles, lots of huckleberries, lots of day hikers to talk to.
Made it down to the highway and got a ride in about ten minutes from a guy named Brad. Super chill guy, a former pro skateboarder and street artist in Los Angeles. Had a really interesting conversation all the way to Baring.
Felt bad going into the store for food before I'd showered, but I was really, really hungry. They were very nice about it, and Andrea (of the Dinsmores, aka Mom for hikers) came in after a bit and gave me a big hug before I'd even introduced myself. Did I mention the not having showered? Brave lady.
Put my pack in her car, and she drove me the two blocks to the Hiker Haven. Shower, laundry, beds, amazing hiker box, and a few gorgeous acres to camp and play in. That's saying nothing of Andrea and Jerry, trail angels extraordinaire. Neither of them hike, they didn't do the trail back in the day or anything like that, Jerry told me they became trail angels just because they were seeing people around town who looked like they could use some help. Love this community.
A straight line may be the shortest distance between two points, but it is by no means the most interesting.
