Illahe Lodge Porch View
Boat ride and home
No walking today--four of us went out on the Rogue to get another perspective after hiking. Ernie, the co-owner of Illahe Lodge, took us out on his ancient river boat up river. We saw a bald eagle stoically perched high up in a fir tree, not moving no matter what the commotion in the river below. Western Pond turtles basked on rocks and Canada Geese banded together on the river's edge. The river was busy with raft parties and jet boats. Our shuttle van from Rogue Wild picked us up at 1 PM, but we had a slight delay on Bear CAmp Road when a fan belt broke and we had to have a relief van retrieve us. We figured it was the curse of Bear Camp Road because we had discussed the fate of the guy who died trying to get help for his family after he drove them out into a snow storm here trying to get to the coast one Thanksgiving. Rogue Wild rewarded our patience with free ice cream back at their headquarters. It only took me about an hour to drive home, but others were taking planes back to southern California and the California Bay Area. I would like to return and camp at some of the numerous campsites we had seen next to the river.
