The Way is clear
Reached the BFT northern terminus
It all worked out perfectly--low tide happened just as we got to the Crescent City Visitor Center. So we drove over to the parking lot for the lighthouse and I walked the last 1000 feet to the lighthouse. I enjoyed a great $ 3 tour of the lighthouse given by a guy who stays with his wife there as volunteer lighthouse keepers for a month. It has been continuously slept in since 1856 when it was built. The lighthouse keepers in 1964 (the year of the big Alaska earthquake) rode out the tsunami and watched it as it rolled over the breakwater and into Crescent City. Scary to imagine. A wonderful ending to a great trail! I will have to track down the wary Baker cypress around Ashland. I plan to hike the 50 mile section through the Siskiyou Wilderness when the fire closure has been lifted--I checked the fire website and they re predicting that event for October, which may be too late this year.
