Back home to Ashland
I took a couple days to drive back to Ashland, visited an old friend in Pahrump, NV. In retrospect I would have done this trip a couple of weeks earlier to avoid anxiety about water sources. But I really enjoyed taking afternoons off and beat most of the heat. A year ago I was battling a freezing cold blizzard on the north rim at the exact same time and battling heat is much more pleasant because it can be avoided by hiking in the morning, whereas blizzards can't be avoided. Camping in the heat was very relaxing--getting up and going without having to freeze my ass off. I'll be back next spring to finish the Hayduke from the North Rim to Zion.
