Journal Entry

Well I finally decided it was time to go see a doctor about my foot. I had rolled it twice on a pointy rock way back in Connecticut and it has been painful and swollen. Not an ankle injury, but a an injury to the bone in front of the ankle. I took the bus from the Inn into Rutland and got X-rayed at the Urgent Care. Very nice people there. No fractures, just bruised bone. The recommendation: stay off it for 2 to 3 weeks, ice it, compression sleeve and elevate it. Ouch. So took the bus back to Killington and got my package and then the bus back to Rutland to the Yellow Deli and Hostel to rest my foot. After 3 days there and no noticable improvement I decided I could not stay there 3 weeks because I was running out of time ( my daughter is getting married in August) so I decided it was best to go home and get my foot well= I had also been experiencing numbness in my toes and in the balls of my feet- so I did not want to do permanent damage to my feet. The trail will be there. Tough to go home though and let Slingshot hike on by himself, and tough quitting knowing that we were the first of the flipfloppers that had started May 3 from Harper's Ferry and likely to be the first of the group to reach the Big K.
