Almost time to go!

Just a quick note on the goings on before I take a short hike this morning. There's so little time left before I leave (May 6!) and still a million things to finish up, so time is condensing at an unprecedented rate these days!

An old foot problem flared up with a vengeance when I began training for this hike, and I've been laying low on and off to give it time to heal. Today's jaunt up and around Mt. Woodson will be a test run. I'd been trying out lighter shoes and different foot beds - disaster!! So back to the podiatrist, and armed with a new boot I'll see how things go with hiking today and tomorrow. My fingers are crossed! Moving back my initial start date of May 3 by a few days is giving me time to test out new boots. 65 breakfasts and 125 dinners, plus loads and loads of other food, piles of maps, gear and miscellaneous, are all arranged in enormous plastic containers, and I'm constantly refining my gear list.

A prospective hiking partner did not pan out and I am going solo - a first for me, which makes it difficult to imagine hiking in the wilderness alone for 5 months. And yet, it all feels exciting and right for me. So, unless another delay is immenant, my next journal entry will be from the trail!
