post hike thoughts and highlights

Ive had almost a week to reflect on my journey. It was harder this year for sure... maybe the terrain, maybe the heat, but the hills just killed me this year. Felt like each one was a struggle. But each day I remember more of the hightlights and less of the hard times.

Seeing the bear on day 4 now is a highlight. And camping with all the thrus that night was awesome, very comforting how they welcomed me into "their" circle. They joined me on an old unused road just outside of Castella, they all knew each other and tossed and shared food like at a teenage slumber party. The next day we walked into town together. They let me use their motel shower, I would get a room later in the next town as I waited for Sojo to show up.

Course the next bright spot was the trail magic at the remote campground on scott mtn summit. It came at the end of a long day, I waited for Sojo and we walked into the magic together. Hemlock Muppet and Birdie (who had in 2009 hiked the PCT) had set up a little oasis for pct hikers. They BBQ'd dinner for us, and we tanked up on soda and chips!! Later Bump came in and Hurricane. We all stayed the night there, not wanting to leave the magic. They next morning, they made pancakes for us!
We were ready for the trail again!
We had magic later also.... the day before coming into Ashland we came upon a cooler full of Pepsi. Nothin beats a cold pop on a hot, dusty, dirty day! Totally unexpected!!

Later I left Sojo in Etna as she needed an extra day off, but Bump and I decided to hike together! We stayed together for many days, but themn I lost her too when she needed an extra day in Ashland. So I hooked up with three from New Zealand...Weki, Kia and Tim. We had different hiking speeds, they were a bit faster, but we hiked the same distance, so we camped together at night. But I left them too... at Mazama campground. I had 22 miles left, and continued on when they decided to stay the night.
Wonderful people to hike with, all of them. Uncle Tom and Pat I couldnt keep up with. Thanks Pat for shining your light in my tent as you hiked by at 1030 at night! Thanks Stick for the drink at Mazama- it was refreshing... and the girls showers were pay showers also!
