Bake Oven Knob Shelter
27.5 mile day (1 mile for water)
Mile 1245.9
It's pouring as I write. A storm has traveled across country having hit
Idaho 4 days ago and now its giving us a great lightening show and
torrential rain. But I'm in the little very old Bake Oven Knob Shelter
just watching it come down. I love this trail life.
Today was too many miles over too tough terrain an I'm beat. Many of the
miles were over lovely gentle trail and I could bust out the miles, but
quite a few were over huge boulder fields that required climbing and
scrambling and balancing. To make it worse, many great multi ton slabs of
rock are not secure and rock back and forth when stepped on.
I met a lovely person on trail today, Nubbins. She's 69 and from Vermont
and thru hiking the trail. She was so interesting that I slowed down for
several hours just to talismans walked. She's very involved in the
Episcopal Church and we talked that and a whole range of things.
Incredible folks are off living in America's wild places. We are so lucky
to have them. Thank you Mr. Muir.
Shroomer out.
