Pacific Crest Trail Map

Journal Entry

Today started out low on water. Kyle had half a liter and I had one liter. Both were gone after a 4 mile 1000 foot climb and we still had 8 miles and 2000 feet to go. Luckly we found snow at 7200 feet so we melted some and had lunch. Then I looked at my GPS and saw that it was 3 pm and we were trying to get to the post office by 5 pm. In order to do this we still had to climb 1000 feet in 3miles and then down 2200 feet in four miles. We made it to the top of the ridge at 4:20 pm and I emptied out my pack of everything that wasn't going in the bump box and began my descent. Kyle went on to set up camp and I decided that it would be faster to make my own trail heading down the mountain. Wrong Idea. After almost killing myself 4 times I made it to the post office at 6pm and they were closed. Being a smart Chico State grad I went to the grocery store next to the post office to pick up a six pack and think about my options. As I was checking out the lady behind me and I got talking and she offered to send the package for me. She gave me a lift back to her house where her husband gave me a box and I packed up. Then he drove me around Wrightwood to look for where Kyle might be coming down. Super cool. He finally dropped me off at the trailhead but Kyle wasn't there. So I walked back into town to get some dinner and groceries before I walked back up to where I camp would be. Finally I met up with Kyle and found out that he had also made his own trail. We finally finished dinner around 10pm and had to walk back up the 4 miles and 2000 feet. Not fun. I almost fell asleep on the trail a few times but we finally made it into camp around midnight to 1am. Long day.
