The why

As it stands I have been wanting to do a long distance hike for quite some time. I don't remember the exact moment of inspiration but I do believe that after reading A Walk In The Woods by Bill Bryson, I got a little more interested. Initially it was the AT - partly because I used to live on the East coast, partly because I'd read about it, and partly because I have hiked sections of it in Maine, Vermont, etc. Recently my focus shifted to the PCT. I think it's the fact that it's a bit less well-known, doesn't see as much traffic, seems more 'wild'. The fact that I haven't spent ANY time in the Northwest also makes this trail appealing to me as I've heard nothing but good things about Washington and Oregon.

Right at this moment I am in the process of a MAJOR life change. A big part of this is affecting my outlook on life. I have found that I slipped (not intentionally) into a state of repetitive mundane tasks. I go to work so I can make money so I can pay my bills so I can have a place to live and a car to drive. This pattern has gotten to be my normal and I don't really like it. I used to have a much stronger drive for adventure and change. I need this back and going to hike the PCT is a big part of this.

In 6 months I will quick my job, will have gotten rid of most of my large belongings, and will be on my way to having a life-enriching experience. This knowledge alone makes each day closer to my start date something to look forward to. Until next time.
