"RAINED OUT"
Yesterday, July 20th, my hiking partner Heather and I flew in to Reno in a storm! We took a shuttle to SLT where the storm had knocked out the power. We had originally planned to hike a few miles and camp yesterday, but we didn't want to start in the rain (wimps) so I called my sister-in-law Jodi and asked her to come rescue us! Jodi and my bro-in-law Mike drove down to the madness that was Harrahs Casino during a power outage and got us - no small feat! My niece Bekah and her new hubby Bryant put us up for the night (thanks again guys!) and Aaron, my super awesome nephew, got us to the TRT at the Kingsbury North trailhead this morning. Thanks you guys... Family rocks!
At 9:30am on Monday July 21, 2014, I FINALLY became a thru-hiker...
First impressions of the trail were great, and soon we got good views of the "Jewel of the Sierra" (AKA THE Lake [Tahoe]). We had lunch at Spooner Summit, complete with a visit from a local bear. Got water at Spooner Lake - which is not such a jewel - Heather and I renamed it "Dirty Cowbutt Water Lake." 20.5 miles (18 of it TRT miles) saw us camping at North Canyon Camp.
